Assessing African Energy Transitions: Renewable Energy Policies, Energy Justice, and SDG 7

Renewable energy has made significant inroads in addressing growing demands on the African continent. However, progress towards SDG 7 is still limited and difficult to trace. Furthermore, results-oriented rationale of SDGs means that both policy change dimension environmental justice are not covered properly. We argue concept may provide a powerful tool offset looming trade-offs enhance co-benefits within broader transition endeavours. In doing so, we assess processes based comparative mapping renewable policies 34 countries. investigate scope frameworks order analyse their contribution greater along different dimensions. then identify four scenarios, which reflect challenges integrating into policies. comparing these tracking needs consider arrive at more holistic implementation line with socio-ecological takes account people’s needs.
